How much sod do I need?
A standard sod roll covers about 10 ft², and a pallet typically holds ~450 ft². Measure each lawn section, add them up, and include ~5–10% extra for curves, slopes and trimming around beds and walkways.
Prep before it arrives
Sod is perishable — order it to arrive the day you'll lay it. Beforehand, kill or strip old grass, loosen the top 2–3 inches of soil, add topsoil if needed, then rake level and lightly firm. Laying fresh sod on hard, unprepared ground is the most common reason a new lawn fails.
Laying and watering
Lay rolls in a staggered, brick-style pattern with tight seams, then roll the finished lawn to press the roots into contact with the soil. Water deeply right away and keep it consistently moist for the first two weeks while the roots knit in.

How long before you can walk on new sod?
Stay off it for about two weeks while roots establish. After 10–14 days, give it a gentle tug — if it resists, the roots have taken and light foot traffic is fine. Hold off on heavy use for about a month.
