How many bricks you need for a wall
Building a brick wall or veneer? Enter the wall length and height to estimate the number of standard bricks, with waste included for cuts and breakage.
How many bricks per square foot?
A standard modular brick with a mortar joint covers about 1/7 of a square foot, so you need roughly 7 bricks per square foot of wall face. We add 10% by default for breakage and cuts around openings.
Single vs. double layer
The 7-per-square-foot figure is for a single-wythe (one brick thick) wall or veneer. A structural double-wythe wall needs twice the count. Subtract the area of any windows or doors from your wall face before ordering, and keep spares from the same batch — brick colors shift between production runs.
Don't forget the mortar
Plan on roughly one 80 lb bag of mortar mix per 30–40 bricks. Joints are typically ⅜ inch; our per-brick coverage already accounts for that joint, so the count reflects a finished wall rather than bricks packed edge to edge.
