How the countdown is counted
Whether you came looking for a countdown calculator, a days till calculator, or simply the number of days until something happens, it is the same arithmetic. The count runs from today at midnight to the target date at midnight, so a date tomorrow returns 1 and a date today returns 0. Weeks are days ÷ 7 and months are days ÷ 30.44, the average month length across a four-year leap cycle.
This matters for a distinction that trips people up: counting the days between two dates is not the same as counting the days in a range. From the 1st to the 8th is 7 days of elapsed time but 8 days if you are counting both endpoints, as you would for a hotel stay or a holiday allowance. This countdown gives elapsed days. When a contract says "within 30 days", it almost always means elapsed days from the start date.
Business days versus calendar days
This is a calendar-day countdown, including weekends and holidays. Anything quoted in business days lands later than the raw number suggests, because every five business days pulls in a weekend.

The shortcut is business days × 1.4. Then add a day for each public holiday in the window, which matters most in late November, late December and early January when a "10 business day" process can stretch past three calendar weeks.
Days in each month

Add one to every cumulative figure from March onward in a leap year. A year is a leap year when it divides by 4, except century years, which must divide by 400 — so 2000 was a leap year and 1900 was not. The next skipped one is 2100.

Notice that 90 days is 12.9 weeks, not 13, and 30 days is 4.3 weeks rather than a tidy 4. Planning a "12-week programme" into a 90-day window leaves you six days short of a full extra week, which is exactly the sort of gap that eats a launch schedule.
Turning a countdown to date into a plan
A number on its own changes nothing. What makes a countdown useful is working backwards from the date:
- Divide by 7 to get weeks, because weeks are the unit people actually plan in.
- Set milestones at the halfway and three-quarter marks, not just at the end. A 90-day project should have something visible by day 45.
- Subtract the time that is not really yours — holidays, other commitments, and the fortnight before the deadline when nothing new can start.
- Convert any external dependency to business days and multiply by 1.4. Suppliers, approvals and shipping all run on business days.

The most common planning failure is not miscounting the days. It is counting them correctly and then treating every one of them as available.
How this days until calculator works out its numbers
Both dates are normalised to midnight local time before subtracting, so the result is a whole number of calendar days regardless of the time of day you load the page. The difference is divided by 86,400,000 milliseconds and rounded.
- Weeks are days ÷ 7. Months are days ÷ 30.44, the mean month length over a four-year leap cycle, so they are approximate by design and marked as such.
- Elapsed days, not inclusive days. The 1st to the 8th returns 7. Add one yourself if you need to count both endpoints.
- Local time zone. The count uses the clock on your own device, so a countdown viewed either side of the international date line can differ by a day.
- Daylight saving is handled by the midnight normalisation, which is why the raw millisecond difference is rounded rather than truncated.
- Not modelled: business days, public holidays, and any regional calendar other than the Gregorian one. The 1.4 multiplier in the table above is a planning approximation, not a calculation.

Can I count days since a past date?
Yes. Choose a date in the past and the tool switches to counting how many days ago it was, along with the equivalent weeks and months.
Does the countdown use business days or calendar days?
Calendar days, including weekends and holidays. To convert a business-day figure, multiply by roughly 1.4: 10 business days is about 14 calendar days, and 30 is about 42.
How many weeks is 90 days?
12.9 weeks, or about 3 months. It is slightly less than a tidy 13 weeks, which is worth knowing when you are fitting a 13-week plan into a 90-day deadline.
How do I count the days between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later one for elapsed days. If you need to count both the first and last day, as for a hotel stay or leave allowance, add one to that result.
How many days are in a year?
365 in a common year and 366 in a leap year. A year is a leap year if it divides by 4, except century years, which must also divide by 400. 2000 was a leap year; 1900 was not, and 2100 will not be.

31 in January, March, May, July, August, October and December; 30 in April, June, September and November; and 28 in February, or 29 in a leap year.
