How many boxes of LVP?
A box of vinyl plank commonly covers about 24 ft². Divide your area by box coverage, round up, and add ~10% for waste. Buy all boxes from the same lot for a consistent pattern.
Click-lock vs. glue-down
Most DIY LVP is click-lock floating plank that snaps together over an underlayment — fast and forgiving. Glue-down LVP bonds directly to the subfloor and is more stable for large open areas and sunrooms, but needs more prep. Rigid-core (SPC) planks hide minor subfloor imperfections better than flexible ones.
Subfloor prep and transitions
LVP needs a clean, flat, dry subfloor — high spots and debris telegraph through the planks. Leave a small expansion gap on floating installs, and plan transition strips at doorways and where the floor meets carpet or tile. Most LVP is waterproof, which is why it's popular in kitchens, baths and basements.
