Coverage per box varies (often ~20 ft²). Divide your area by the box coverage and round up. Add 10% for cuts — more for diagonal layouts or busy rooms with lots of corners.
Acclimate and leave an expansion gap
Laminate is a floating floor that expands and contracts with humidity. Let the boxes acclimate flat in the room for 48 hours first, and leave a ¼–⅜ inch expansion gap around every wall, hidden by baseboard or quarter-round. Skipping the gap is the top cause of buckling.
Underlayment and AC rating
Most laminate needs a foam underlayment unless it's pre-attached. Check the board's AC rating for durability — AC3 suits most homes, AC4–AC5 handles heavy or light-commercial traffic. Buy all boxes from the same lot so the printed grain pattern stays consistent.
